- Discover the favorite cookie of everyone in your household or group of friends.
- Select your 5 signature cookies that you will
- continue to bake after this course.
Readings:
Read the introductory chapters detailing ingredients, equipment, and techniques of at least 5 of these books, which can all be found in the 641.8654 section of the library or can be ordered from another library for no charge.










Read and watch these cookie decorating tips: “How to Decorate Sugar Cookies” by Sally McKenney
Viewings:
Watch Fundamentals of Baking: Cookies—Essential Ingredients
Assignments:
- Make 10 or more batches of cookies from recipes found in the cookbooks on this syllabus within 3 months.
- Give at least one cookie of each batch to each household member/friend and ask them to rate the cookie on taste and appearance. Track their feedback.
- Try out at least 3 cookies from other bakers, which could include other home bakers, professionals, or grocery store brands.
Extra Credit:
- Determine the best chocolate chip cookie or macaron recipe by trying out multiple recipes and gathering feedback from cookie eaters.
- Create your own cookie recipe.
- Use Waseca Public Library’s Cookie Cutters Adventure Pack to try out unique sugar cookie shapes when practicing your icing.
