Real People, Real History: Juneteenth

May 26, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Free

University of St. Thomas historian Dr. Yohuru Williams will expand upon Annette Gordon-Reed’s On Juneteenth, which provides a clear, truthful look at Black history in Texas. From the contributions of Black cowboys, ranchers, and oilmen to June 19, 1865, when Major General Gordon Granger announced the end of legalized slavery in the state, African-Americans have played and continue to play an integral role in the Texas story. Find out why Juneteenth is so important to our nation’s history and why it is so relevant today.

American Rescue Plan: Humanities Grants for Libraries is an initiative of the American Library Association (ALA) made possible with funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) through the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.
